Recently TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Ashmore campus buzzed with energy and enthusiasm as it hosted the WorldSkills Australia Regional Skills Competition for Auto Electrical and Mechanical apprentices.
This event marked an important step in the journey towards the prestigious WorldSkills National Competition, scheduled to take place in Brisbane in June 2025.
Winners from regional competitions across Australia will converge at this event to compete for the title of the best Auto Electrical , Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle Mechanical apprentice in the nation. The victor of this intense three-day challenge may earn the chance to represent Australia on the global stage at the WorldSkills International competition in the following year.
Worldskills have been pivotal in organising these competitions, which are crucial for showcasing the talent and skills of the country’s apprentices.
The day’s events at the Ashmore campus were supported by esteemed industry judges from leading automotive companies such as Cooldrive , Bursons, and Repco Auto Parts.
The judges’ expertise ensured that the competition maintained the highest standards, as they evaluated the apprentices across multiple disciplines of the trade, focusing on diagnostic skills and manual hand skills.
Competitors were meticulously assessed on their ability to follow correct procedures and demonstrate competency, with marks awarded or deducted accordingly. The outcome determined the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medallists, who represented the pinnacle of excellence in their field at this regional level.
TAFE Queensland is set to host the National WorldSkills event at the Brisbane Entertainment and Convention Centre in June 2025. The event is expected to attract over 30,000 attendees, offering a grand stage for tradespeople from across the spectrum, from hospitality to robotics and every trade skill in between, to showcase their talents. Held biennially, this significant event highlights the breadth and depth of skills within the trades and is an unmissable spectacle for anyone with an interest in vocational excellence.
The Auto Electrical competition for the Gold Coast Region culminated with the following standout performances:
– **Gold Medal:** Reece Gallagher from Northern Rivers Auto Electrical, Alstonville NSW
– **Silver Medal:** Cohen Powell from Gold Coast Car Electrics and Mechanical, Molendinar
– **Bronze Medal:** Flynn Bushell from Smart Auto Electrical- Burleigh heads
Richard Sullivan from Gold Coast TAFE added, “These young apprentices have displayed remarkable skill and dedication, and we extend our best wishes to them as they prepare for the National stage, where they will have the opportunity to further distinguish themselves in their respective trades.”
