Trade Skills Assessment Program

Many of our readers have staff with great skills but they do not have any official training accreditation.  Now these workers have the opportunity to gain a Certificate III through a Queensland-based training program. If you are in other states check with your local TAFE as they may be able to assist if they have a similar program. At this stage this particular program is specific to Queensland as it is funded through the Queensland State Government.

We previously knew this as RPL (Recognition Of Prior Learning). The original RPL service/assessments still exists and this is another option but it’s the funding that is the new part of this program.  The normal RPL costs in excess of $1000 in full fee for service where the applicant has to pay.  With this new program the RPL component is fully funded, Gap training is additional at a reasonable fee.

It is all based around recognition of prior learning (RPL).  The general theme is that the applicant needs to have been working in the industry for a reasonable period of time, maybe working as a trades assistant or similar.

The program is a great way for workers in the automotive and engineering industries who do not have Certificate III level qualifications to get nationally recognised skills at a lower cost than normal.
